Description
Polygala tenuifolia is a herb from the Polygalaceae (Milkwort) family. It is one of the 50 fundamental herbs used in traditional Chinese medicine, where it is called Yuan Zhi. Polygala tenuifolia also goes by the common names Chinese Senega and Siberian Milkwort. In traditional Chinese medicine, Polygala tenuifolia is commonly used as an expectorant and for treatment of coughs, bronchitis, and asthma. Chinese Senega is being studied as a mood enhancer in the nootropic community. Polygala tenuifolia is also being researched for anxiety, insomnia, palpitations, poor memory, and depression, especially in cases of excessive brooding and pent-up emotions.
